Grabbed the amd64 memstick image.

Post-download Terminal commands:

gunzip amd64memstick-5.1.fs.gz diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk1 dd if=amd64memstick-5.1.fs of=/dev/rdisk1 bs=1024k

Rebooted with alt key down and fingers crossed.

10 minutes later…

Nope, no luck this time. Maybe the next release will do something to fix that.

Beginning again

Over the course of several years, I have created and destroyed several blogs. False starts, interrupted thoughts, short-lived inspiration, and self-consciousness have certainly contributed to this problem. So why another blog? Is this just another attempt doomed to failure?

Even as I write, words seem to be escaping me.

What is the remedy?

Simple. Just write, and don’t look back.

Annoyances – Verizon Advertisement Texts

Ever since I visited the Verizon Store to switch my plan from prepaid to contract (stupid move, I know), I’ve been getting these annoying text messages from Verizon. They come from “WestCommunications@VerizonWireless.com” and are always video messages advertising some new phone that Verizon is selling. On top of it all, I get two copies of each message they send.

A quick Google search reveals that no one else seems to have this problem. Wow, I’m special.

Two for the price of… two! You see, the worst part is that they aren’t free messages – they are charged to my account like regular multimedia messages. Ironic, that I have to pay Verizon for their advertisements. I can just see it: “Verizon now offers an easy way to receive all the crap advertisements that you’ve been missing. For just $10.00 a month you will receive 5 spam messages each day advertising our new phones. Sign up today!”

There is no opt-out or way to block them through My Verizon. I contacted Verizon through their support page, no response.

Oh well, my next phone will be on another network and will have no text messaging features whatsoever.
